The trip takes approximately 8 hours and the start and finish times vary according to the tides, but you need to be ready for a start as early as 7am if you are hiring dive equipment, with a latest finish time of approximately 6.30pm - precise times will be confirmed 2 days prior to your trip. After issuing equipment, we load onto the boat in Ilfracombe harbour for the 1.5 hour crossing to Lundy Island. During the crossing look out for porpoise as we leave the harbour and Dolphins in the channel, both species are often spotted from the boat. We might even see Sun Fish, Minke Whales or Basking Sharks during the Summer months. There is a wealth of sea bird-life at Lundy Island and May/June divers are in with a chance of spotting Puffins during the surface interval.
Whilst the Seals are the stars of the show, Lundy Island is situated in a Marine Conservation 'no take' Zone and you can expect to enjoy pristine Kelp forests and a good chance of Lobster, Spider Crab (in July/August), colourful Cuckoo Wrasse and Jellyfish (Late June/July) sightings. You may also encounter Octopus, Conger Eels, Dog Fish and Nudibranchs.
Full equipment hire package includes a full 5mm wetsuit, a 5mm shorty, hood and gloves as well as everything else you need to dive. We do not hire drysuits due to the individual fit and find our double wetsuit combo works well at the shallow Seal dive sites during the Summer months.
